Our most vocal, 15 minutes of fame personality in T&T, Mr Watson Duke, head of the Public Services Association, is readying his troops to assault our senses. Like the Grand old Duke of York, he will march his troops to the top of the hill and march them down again.
At a news conference recently held at PSA headquarters, he informed us that workers of the Civil Aviation Authority, National Insurance Board, Agriculture Development Bank and Nipdec were trying to understand why in 2016 they were working for 2010 salaries.
He said public servants felt they were under attack from a government that seems to have no interest in settling outstanding matters and that they were going to fight back. The Duke is promising "war."
It would appear that the most uncaring, unpatriotic citizens are the very public servants employed by the Government.I used to be a public servant and I do not remember being encouraged to weaken my employer, at the say-so of an openly opportunistic political aspirant.
Public servants do not have to worry about being retrenched or their place of employment going into liquidation. I am sure that Mr Duke cannot make anyone lose their job if they choose not to take part in his anti government rabble-rousing.
For those public servants who voted PNM on September 7, 2015, ask yourself who is the Prime Minister of T&T, Watson Duke or Dr Keith Rowley? Who is your direct employer? Surely it is the tax payers.
And while you are about it, think on what role the local corporate sector and the business community will have to play in order to save many other citizens' employment and in keeping T&T running. One hand cannot clap. It has to be a collaborative effort to save the whole country.
For which political party is the PSA Duke of Disturbance allegedly working? Is it for himself and his own political party?
