Why the scaremongering from so many in the business community?
That the economic situation is 'serious' and it is not temporary?
What an absolute load of crock (trust me I wanted to use harsher words).
Yes the price of oil and gas are down, but are we saying that if the oil and gas ever runs out T&T will cease to exist?
Dinosaur logic from people who only know how to buy, mark up and sell.
My grandfather taught me when I was a little boy, if you want to understand what people are saying, pay attention to what they are NOT saying.
Why are none of these people talking about retooling, diversifying and redirecting the national effort?
Why aren't we in overnight sessions discussing alternative streams of revenue?
I'll tell you why, because most of these people have become obese on the fat of the land and forgot what effort smells like.
I also believe that many of them are sitting on mountains of cash and want to pick land, property and business for a song, and are trying to scare people away.
What is really behind the Government's apparent complete lack of anything like leadership or ideas.
WE have ideas. I reject this nonsense notion of doom and gloom.
There are ways to redirect the national expenditure, lower our overheads and increase our income, but we have to want it.
Yes, how we do business is going to have to change, and many of us are going to have to tighten our belts.
In every recession there are opportunities. Every dark cloud has a silver lining, and if these retrograde profiteers have no clue as to how to go forward, ask them politely to get out of the way.
This is the time for the small businessman to rise up, to create opportunity that first takes care of his or her home and family, and then to push out into the wider community.
This is the time of the farmer/entrepreneur, the visionary and the doer, this is not the time for 'cants', this is the time of the 'cans'.)
Reject the notion that we are terminal, we are far from it. What we need is leadership from people who know how to roll up their sleeves when the going gets tough, and to push in the right direction.
Reject these circus politicians and jester-economists. We've survived worse, we will survive this.
Let's Stand UP T&T!
