I am not going to single out anybody. But because we live in a democracy, I can observe.
It sometimes can be alleged that some people chosen to be Independent Senators, relied upon to give an unbiased view, are far from independent and unbiased. Neither do they care who might notice.
Some are quite openly promoting the particular view of the political party which has placed them to stymie rather than assist with deliberations on making rational choices regarding important issues.
The Senate is instead a political stumbling block to whichever government happens to be in power.
In order for the government of the day to get necessary support, it has to deal, literally, with the power of persuasion of key independently thinking senators.
These few persons are the true political power brokers. With each general election, the political shoe moves from foot to foot.
But mine is a personal view. We live in Trinidad and Tobago where every man in the street fancies him/herself as an educated political animal.
And do we not all wholeheartedly agree that, in politics as well as in affairs of the heart, that all is fair in love and war?
In this land where image is everything, it is allegedly wise to be careful not to be misconstrued as it hinders rather than helps one's chosen particular party.
