With statistics showing approximately fourteen thousand Venezuelans visiting our shores in a very short space of time, I believe it is something we should be concern about. Taking into consideration the economic condition in Venezuela and what the people are going through it is quite obvious that they are looking for a better life for themselves and family. You cannot blame them for doing so for if we were in their position I am sure we would have done the same. However it is necessary that as a Country that we take certain relevant things into consideration before making any decisions.
First of all the present policies if any that govern the in flocks of people of this magnitude. Let us face it this can impact on us in several areas, it is more people to take care off. Far as I am concern we already have issues of our own in this area. Secondly which is crucial is our own economic condition that exists presently in T&T. While we may not be in the same state as our neighbouring counterpart we do have some very challenging situations with the economy. Now if our economy is not properly managed thing can take a turn for the worse. I am not convinced that additional human resource will not help us.
Another thing that should be taken into consideration is the labour force. Presently our locals are being sent home unemployment is at 3.5% and rising, if people are coming with the intention to make T&T a place of abode how would they live judging from what is happening in the workplace. Could there be a negative impact due to unemployment? I put the question to those in authority.
While I believe that the humane aspect is very important and helping others is all part of life it is important that we be balance and realize that the Government first responsibility is too its citizens. So be wise when making decisions on this matter.
