British Prime Minister David Cameron signaled his intention to resign as Prime Minister within hours of the UK voters' decision to exit the European Union.
Only 13 months ago Cameron led the conservatives to an overwhelming victory at the polls forcing the immediate resignation of both the labour and Lib Dem leaders.
Sadly, T&T cannot boast of leaders with the same level of integrity and principles. Nine months after the ill-fated Kamla 2015 election campaign, ex prime minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar now shamelessly sits in the Opposition Leader's chair.
Having been brought up in the Colonial political and legal system, we would have expected her to follow the British tradition and honourably resign after a defeat, as exemplified by Cameron.
T&T economy is now in a free fall and the negative effects of the Brexit vote will no doubt negatively have an impact on our already precarious situation. Our present government seems clueless about how to deal with this economic crisis.
While we hold hands with Venezuela others hold handbags, with a brazen uncaring attitude, oblivious that their mere presence prevents any hope the country has of overcoming this impending disaster.
Let's hope shame comes quickly to some of our leaders who have lost elections.
