Are we treating our consumers fairly? This question I would like to put to all those involved in the business of selling food and other commodities. While we all must make a living, I believed that we must be fair to each other and this must be on both sides–seller and purchaser.
Recently I visited a roti shop to make a purchase only to notice the prices had changed from the previous Friday by $2.Not being contented, I proceeded to another roti outlet only to see a sign stating that from a particular date there will be an increase in prices.
This was not all, my good friend selling doubles also has increased his price this week by a dollar–a 25 per cent increase. Was there an increase in flour and other commodities that make these foods? Maybe I missed something here.
I do know what goes into making these things, for example, the labour, but so it is with many other foods that are served in T&T.It is important that we take into consideration the situation that exists due to the present recession.
Now while I made mention of certain foods, I am quite sure it is not only these for I did so out of my experiences. Please let us be honest and fair with the consumers for we both need each other to survive at the end of the day.
