Sell No Man’s Land, pay policy holders

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

It was such a great relief hearing from the majority share holder of CL Financial, after all, he is in the middle of the Clico fiasco which has been in our news for several years. Or did we just hear his voice because there is an immediate interest that concerns him or what he sees as being important?

I make reference to the No Man’s Land issue which has now cropped up regarding ownership. My good friend is willing to fight legally for the property, and we cannot blame him as everyone has that right.

While he is in that fighting and talking mood, is it possible that he can tell the country and the thousands of citizens if he and his team have a strategy of reimbursing those clients who have been waiting for years for compensation? Or is that it is the Government of T&T’s responsibility?

If No Man’s Land belongs to Clico subsidiaries and others, and now there is such a heavy demand for this 517 acres, it certainly can bring in quite a hefty sum. Put it on the market and begin to pay back policy holders. Also, look at other assets with which the same can be done.

Tax payers did not create the problem, why should they be the ones to stand the consequences of others’ actions? That, in no context, can be justified. The danger of this is that it is sending a message that people can mess up and the Government and tax payer’s money will bail them out. Who is responsible let them face the heat.
