Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has expressed the Caribbean Community's pride in the achievement of its athletes at the just concluded Rio Paralympics.
The highlight of the Region's participation was the world record setting performance of gold medal winner Akeem Stewart of T&T, with a throw of 57.23 metres in the Javelin finals. It broke his own previously held world record of 54.77 metres.
Ambassador LaRocque said the performance epitomised the determination of the Region's differently-abled citizens to compete with the rest of the world and be the best in their chosen field.
He stated Caricom's commitment to seeking ways to ensure a better life for all differently abled in building a Community for all.
Their example of commitment and excellence, in the face of the challenges they encounter, serve as an inspiration to us all as we strive to build a viable and prosperous society, he said.
