The call for the abolition of the jury system may not be as foolish as some suggest. Prejudices amongst jurors, intimidation of jurors by supporters of criminals, all transpire to result in hung juries.
A panel of judges in cases of murder, treason, sedition et al, could effectively replace the jury system and give justice a chance.As it is now, criminals are emboldened by lack of detection and conviction.
The bail system, while in a few instances may be unjust, in the majority of cases criminals are kept at bay in remand.
Less serious crime, including drug use, should not see accused languishing in prison. However, for more serious cases the system needs to be changed, more judges appointed and courts established.
