I would like to thank the acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams for the startling revelation that some 150 police officers have been suspended for misconduct in the Police Service since 2012. While this is good to hear, I am left wondering how many more are still out there.
Judging from the most recent incident where a businessman was robbed, there is no doubt that much work still has to be done. Does suspending these officers mean that they can return to the Police Service at a later date? As a concerned citizen, I cannot feel comfortable with our local law enforcement agency. In 2016, citizens are still bothered by the behaviour of some police officers. Mr Williams is asking citizens to have faith in the Police Service. What he may know, see, and experience, can be very different from the man on the street.
I will heed the advice given by a senior officer-if anyone shows up at your residence claiming he is a police officer, call the nearest police station to verify. It is a sad day in our country when citizens, for their own safety, cannot trust those who were placed there to protect and serve. Please continue rooting out the rogue elements who are giving our country and the Police Service a bad name.
