There seems to be some concerns with respect to the operations of the technological company Uber in T&T. Crime seems to be the major concern of citizens, while the Ministry of Works and Transport seems to have their main focus on the legalities of their operations. I believe that Uber and other local technological companies that deliver similar services, provide a valid solution with respect to development a reliable transport system.
These technological companies record an electronic paper trail of your transactions that are delivered to your phone and email inbox. You are informed in advance of who your driver is, the registration number and a photo of your driver.
While there is a risk involved in using these services, the safety measures that are placed to the forefront of their applications are absent in the public transport systems.
The Ministry of Works and Transport should rid themselves of the bias by targeting Uber as the only service in T&T that uses "PH" drivers. I have used other local applications, and they do indeed have "PH" drivers servicing their company. If there are implications for Uber there should be implications for all local companies that operate similar services.
If the Government is seeking to have regulations in place to regulate technological applications, they should probably revisit the regulation of drones invading privacy in the air, as oppose to a reliable private service on the ground.
