It is quite obvious to the average law-abiding citizen that the Minister of National Security has failed the country by not fulfilling the requirements of the Constitution of T&T of providing “security of persons” as enshrined in that Constitution.
His failure thus far, is of serious concern to citizens and visitors alike as he continues with the same rhetoric: “no stone will be left unturned,” to capture these perpetrators of crime.
Personally, I find it troubling that in a population of 1.3 million people where criminals may number 10,000, if that many, and with a police force of 7,000 and an army with maybe a similar number that the authorities cannot catch these criminal elements to bring an end to the scourge of crime in our beautiful country.
What is equally troublesome is the push for increased tourism in a climate of crime, rape and murders. Do we really expect tourists to visit our shores?
The way things look, with yet another murder of a prison officer, I say to Mr Dillon, if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. Call a gun amnesty now as a start to over-hauling your apparatus of dealing effectively with crime. Australia did it and it was a tremendous success. We the citizenry demand no less. The International image of the country is already damaged by gross incompetence at all levels. Evidence is available in all walks of daily life in T&T.
