Drop MA in Carnival Studies
There are news reports that the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) will not be able to continue full operations beyond January 2018.
The main reason for these expected job cuts is the severe financial constraints worsened with the further 11 per cent decrease in UTT’s 2017/2018 recurrent allocation to $200 million.
One remedial measure which I would like to recommend, is the closure of its Academy for Arts, Letters, Culture and Public Affairs, with its highly-paid calypso academic staff.
The Academy offers only one programme—an MA in Carnival Studies—which is duplicated at UWI in its Department of Creative and Festival Arts.
Can someone pray tell what job can one get with an MA in Carnival Studies?
And why the ethnocentric concentration only on Carnival Studies?
Why not also Hosay Studies or Diwali Studies or Santa Rosa First Peoples Studies?
