Clamp down on Tobago crime
The beautiful island of Tobago this week recorded murder No. 10 and the records will show that 2017 has seen the highest amount of murders in history on that island. Yes, sweet Tobago, our little paradise.
It is clear to see that no country is immune from the criminal elements especially in the days we are living in. My mind goes back to those days when you could have gone to Tobago for a vacation and walk the streets at any hour of nights and feel safe and comfortable. That, in my opinion, is not there any more. Judging from reports coming out of Tobago, crime is having a serious effect on the island.
The authorities need to begin an aggressive, no-nonsense approach to dealing with crime before it gets out of hand. Let us not forget that this is a tourist destination and Tobago depends largely on tourism. We are now thinking about Sandals in Tobago in order to boost tourism. If this does happen escalating crime will not be of any help. So please, let as not wait until it is too late, we still can and fight this demon of crime that is trying to infiltrate Tobago.
