Barfi’s best qualities are perfectly reflected in one of Dreamy Creamy’s most popular ice-creams. One look at the mountainous scoop and you know you’re in for a perfectly sweet, spiced and creamy experience. The classic Indian delicacy has been a featured flavour in Dreamy Creamy’s ice-creams since October 2014.
The ice-cream doesn’t only look exactly like barfi but, it also smells and tastes like the most favoured Divali dessert. It’s signature white colour with flecks of rainbow sprinkles were brilliantly replicated in frozen form. Somehow, they even managed to make the ice-cream look as creamy as a barfi should be.
When it comes to taste, signature notes of ginger and cardamom immediately hit you. The spice starts from the pungency of ginger and mellows out to release the cardamom’s notes. The ice-cream then cools down to that mellow, familiar, slightly powdery milky taste that we all know and love. You can even tell that there’s a healthy helping of condensed milk in the formulation—after all, nothing else can mimic that deep decadence.
We opted for a chocolate and rainbow sprinkle-decorated waffle cone and then, upped the ante and sugar content with additional rainbow sprinkles ontop of our two scoops of barfi ice-cream. The results were magical. Sure, there may have got a sugar rush after but, the cocoa and barfi were a perfect combination and, the added sweetness of the rainbow sprinkles just reminded us even more (if that was possible) of a much sought-after thick square of barfi.
The only thing that was missing was chunks of barfi- but, that may just be us getting a bit greedy and over-indulgent. The uniqueness of this ice-cream, despite it’s name, is the permeation of the aromatics throughout the dessert without being overpowering. This flavour could have easily gone wrong and ventured into ‘taste-like-perfume’ territory. However, it was masterfully done and we’d love to see a chocolate or cashew barfi variation.
Though we’re a bit late to the train, there’s always someone who may not have experienced Dreamy Creamy’s not-so-hidden gem. Of course, a pint of barfi ice-cream (and maybe one or two others) was taken home. Visit Dreamy Creamy to get your barfi ice-cream fix this Divali.
