Naparima Girls' High School (NGHS) family and friends celebrated another successful and exciting year at the Petrotrin Club, Pointe-a-Pierre, last month. In the last academic year, the school enjoyed success in not just academics, but in all of its extra curricular activities.
Under the theme Moonlight n' Mistletoe, Principal Patricia Ramgoolam, staff, members of the school's Alumni Association, and the Parent's Action Committee, dined in style, then danced the evening away to the sweet sound of parang from south based group Sensacion and a DJ.
Past Chairman of the school's Building Committee, Kelvin Harnanan, who continues to assist the school, even though his children have since graduated, raised a toast to the school. Principal Ramgoolam said the fund-raiser,was also an awareness event to bring focus to their centenary celebrations in 2012.
NGHS ,which was founded by Canadian Missionary Dr Kenneth J Grant, in 1912, is the alma mater of First Lady Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards, former First Lady Zalayhar Hassanali, and first woman
House Speaker Occah Seepaul. A grand celebration is planned to commemorate a century of academic and holistic excellence. Musical Performances, a Caribbean Cruise, social soirees, dinners and publications, will all form part of the celebration, being hosted by the NGHS Centenary Committee in the coming year.
