House Speaker, Wade Mark, was among the specially invited guests when the Marabella Family Crisis Centre treated senior citizens of the area to entertainment and lunch at the facility on December 17.
Mark is patron of the facility. In his address to attendees, Mark said he was honoured to dine with those who had made such selfless contributions to society. "I have great respect for our senior citizens. Many of you contributed to the development of generations in many ways. The elderly were the master and mistresses of life, and had responsibility of the transition from childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood."Many of us today wonder what went wrong. Basic human principles such as compassion, truthfulness, forgiveness seems to have disappeared, or are under threat in our society.
"You who are here in this room are the salt of the earth, and have made great contributions to society by what you believe and value, by what you stood for, and continue to stand for. May you continue those values for this generation and the generations to come," the Speaker said. Pastor Andrew Sinanan delivered the Christmas message, saying that sometimes we forget the real meaning of the season. "A teacher told her class to write down one word that comes to mind about Christmas. They wrote Santa Claus, presents, ham, turkey, and holiday, but not one of them wrote Jesus. God sent His son Jesus to take human form. Jesus is the reason for the season. If He lives so do we have life," he said.
