Early in 2011 the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Development Company Ltd (TDC), in collaboration with the Paramin Development Committee, will be undertaking the following steps to enhance the beautiful Paramin hills:-
-Installation of coin-operated telescopes on the hillsides that offer panoramic vistas,
-Historical signage along the roadways of the various Paramin villages,
-Construction of seating and washroom facilities for picnic areas,
-Development of promotional literature on Paramin,
-Training of community residents in the areas of tour guiding and hospitality.
-Erection of a perimeter fencing on the cliffs of Le Vigeau to ensure the safety of visitors
These action steps followed a site visit to Paramin on December 6 by Dr Rupert Griffith, the Minister of Tourism, and other senior tourism executives, and a meeting with the Paramin Development Committee on December 10. The Ministry of Tourism will be working with the Paramin Development Committee to develop two and five-year plans that will detail the tourism development of the Paramin area, and the best way to capitalise on its wonderful panoramic vistas, rich architecture and culture, and the significant potential for agro-tourism. This development is being done on the belief that the upgrade of our eco-tourism and community tourism niche market will preserve T&T's biodiversity. The committee will also set up a working team, which will comprise other community sporting and religious groups, to put together a preliminary tourism plan for Paramin.
The Paramin Development Committee, led by its chairman, Thomas San Juan, is planning to document the area's medicinal herbs and remedies, as well as revitalise patois classes within kindergarten schools in Paramin. Quite a number of international tourists, primarily cruise ship passengers, currently visit Paramin looking to explore its pristine breathtaking vistas and enjoy French-Spanish culture and parang music. The visitors are taken there via four wheeled ATV vehicles.
