Alicia Powell, talk show host and magazine editor, was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2009. Out of illness cometh good because Alicia was driven to form The Basia Survivor Network, with the aim of being able to help Caribbean women cope with the dreaded disease. The Basia Survivor Network provides a wide range of services to participants, including medical sponsorship, therapeutic yoga, inspirational lectures and diet consultations.
Weekly professional services free of charge, are provided to people diagnosed and surviving Breast Cancer. The Basia Survivor Network focuses on reducing stress while educating members on diet, mediation and exercise. This year, Janelle Penny Commissiong-Chow will host her annual Carnival Fete on March 5, and part proceeds from the sale of tickets will be donated to The Basia Foundation. Join Penny at Queen's Park Oval on The Greens, Havelock Street, St Clair, from 4 pm to 11 pm. The evening will showcase entertainment by popular local artistes, a culinary experience compared to no other, beautiful atmosphere, music to keep you moving till 11 pm and all this at a cost of $650.
