With all the negativity that Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive has endured in recent times, new methods have been introduced to combat the issues. The school has introduced a Morals and Values programme, which kicked off last Monday.Prayer, Healing and You: The Alternative Concept was the first phase of many to come, as students and teachers flooded the school's auditorium for three days to be blessed by a lineup of inspirational speakers. Among them, Pastor Clive Dottin, Evangelist Dominic Dos Santos, and Lurtan Patterson.According to co-ordinator of the event, Margaret Lewis-Ravello, the school has recently been highlighted in a negative way, and the staff and students wanted a change.
"We are trying to bring something powerful and meaningful to the students. It is all geared towards promoting positive aspects and guiding the youths towards a better future," she said.Principal John Chan Kit was proud of his school's initiative in trying to promote moral and spiritual values in the lives of students."We have started the programme called Moral and Spiritual values, and at the end of the year we are going to give book prizes to students who have excelled. With this aim, we have been reflecting on the Lenten season."
Delivering a powerful address was charismatic Seventh Day Adventist leader, Pastor Clive Dottin, who entertained as he delved into the biblical scriptures. He sang, "Up with Christ the Savior and down with coke and ganja," much to the audience amusements. "I eh winning no $2 million for that," he continued. He then painted scenarios of the mistakes some young people make in their lives.
Also blessing the audience was former three-time Road March winner Christopher "Tambu" Herbert, with a series of thought evoking gospel songs. Herbert was a former lead vocalist in the band Charlie's Roots. Among his renditions were No Greater Love, and What Can You Give In Exchange For Your Soul. He left the audience with a strong message."My character has changed and is now focused on God, and there is nothing outside in the world but death and destruction."
