Sutra Lounge, the newest exotic dining experience in south Trinidad formally opened its doors last Friday, with San Fernando mayor Marlene Coudray, and manager Susan Rooplal formally cutting the ribbon to signal the beginning of a new dining experience. Sutra means a thread or line that holds things together. The launch was host to a contingency of prominent members of the southern community, including former Point Fortin mayor Larry Achong, former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday, chutney artiste Adesh Samaroo, and Michael Warmack, marketing manager of Sunny Group of Companies. Patrons were treated to live entertainment from popular saxophonist Francis Prime, and pannist Ken Philmore (Professor). Dancers from the Kiss Baking Company Natraj also entertained patrons.
Sutra Lounge serves fine menu of delicious Indian delicacies, and a full bar of tropical and exotic alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. The waiters and waitresses don traditional Indian wear. Many of the patrons were quite impressed with the lounge. Friends Elizabeth Ramlogan and Jacqueline Lee Loy said they loved the dining experience, as they sipped on their Grey Goose. Rooplal described the lounge as a traditional aspect of T&T's culture and a tourist attraction. She said that being a Hindu, the idea came as she observed the southern community and found that Sutra was a need. "Sutra is where royalty socialise, because that is the treatment you get." Rooplal said it was a place for the dignitaries, the upper-class and the middle class.
"What makes our restaurant different is our service is top class, and our drink and meals are always fresh. If you ask for a coconut drink, you get a fresh coconut. Sutra is the new attraction for all," she said.
