The streets of San Fernando were filled last Saturday, as Youth For Christ held its ninth annual Liberation Day celebrations. Hundreds of people came out for the event, which began from as early as 9 am, with many assembling at the Naparima College grounds. The day began with a huge march through San Fernando, with the various regions around the country making up the sections. The march was aided by six heavy T trucks equipped with high-powered audio systems on trailers. As they proceeded, the public witnessed mobile ministry and songs of praise.
The march climaxed at Skinner Park, where a large stage was set up for an evening of prayer and entertainment. There were live performances by JJ and Friends, and members of different full-gospel churches. On hand at the event was national director of Youth for Christ Trinidad and Tobago, Frank Porter. Porter is the well known author of the Republic Reader, which is used in many primary schools.
Porter said Liberation Day was aimed at exposing the youths to music and dance and enjoying themselves in a Christian manner.
He said the introduction of JJ and Friends was to try to bring a new direction aimed at the children to learn and become more involved in the programme. "Here we see people breaking down in tears with some giving their life to Jesus Christ, it is truly amazing," he said. Among those present at the event were Asian evangelist, Finu Iype, who hails from Bahrain; popular local gospel singer, Nicole Ballosingh-Holder; Pastor Roger Samuel; and Apostle Vernon Duncan.
