They may be small in number-26 members in total - but the Rotary Club of Princes Town has been making big strides, not only in Trinidad, but in District 7030, which incorporates 14 countries in which they operate.Their successes, in the past year, bore tangible results at a gala function held in Barbados, following the Rotary District Conference there in early April. At that function, district governor Anthony Watkins presented Princes Town with the most distinguished Club of The Year Award, as well as, the Club with the Best Attendance Record (small).Assistant governor Ann Marie Rogers, who accepted the awards on their behalf, handed them over to president of the Princes Town Club Seunarine Sanmook at a smaller function held at the Canton Palace Restaurant, Cross Crossing, San Fernando on April 20.
At that function, Tameeka Luces-Lima was also inducted as the newest member of the Princes Town Club."Our district is made up of 69 clubs in 14 countries. There are 22 clubs in T&T. Out of the 69 clubs, Princes Town received these special awards," Rogers beamed as she made the presentation."As part of the Rotary culture, every club is mandated to meet every single week. Princes Town had 100 per cent attendance at their meeting for the period 2010/2011. They are the only club which received these awards, so it is indeed an honour," Rogers added.
She also explained that Rotary was in the process of partnering with the Ministry of the People and Social Development to help less fortunate citizens."A simple thing as a birth certificate , lots of people in this country do not know how to access. Some don't even know how to fill our forms. The Rotary Club will be that middle person between government and the vulnerable citizens," Rogers said. She added that the Rotary, will remain an independent service organisation, in spite of their partnership with the government.
