Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL) recently concluded a series of seminars on the construction of concrete benches in local communities, as part of a partnership with the Ministry of Gender Affairs Women in Harmony Programme.
Five three-hour sessions were held during the month of April in the following communities: Warrenville (Cunupia); Libertville (Rio Claro); Petit Morne (St Madeline); New Village (Point Fortin); and, St Joseph. A session was also held for the Rock River (Moruga) community, in conjunction with the Village Council there.
The seminars were geared towards equipping participants with the skills required to enable them to make their own concrete benches. TCL's expertise provided valuable insight on constructing the moulds, colouring and mixing techniques, placing the concrete, curing methods and maintenance of the benches. Community members expressed their gratitude to TCL for providing them with the opportunity to learn about preparing concrete benches, and also for the face to face insight on proper concrete mixing and curing techniques.
