In addition to reducing the chances of an accident, Johnnie Walker, distributor of the world's best-selling brand of Scotch Whisky is offering another incentive to responsible drinking. On Wednesday an exclusive competition was introduced on www.facebook.com/johnniewalkertandt as part of the Responsible Drinking campaign, Be A Giant Don't Drink and Drive. The prize? To bowl the first ceremonial ball of the day to Sir Viv Richards, among other things-a new deal made between Johnnie Walker and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). Johnnie Walker is the official Whisky of the West Indies v India 2001 Series, between June 4 and July 10, and will use the series as a platform to raise the level of awareness about the importance of not drinking and driving.
As part of the ongoing Be a Giant campaign, Sir Viv Richards and Shaka Hislop last week launched the Johnnie Walker Facebook page facebook.com/johnniewalkertandt, inviting cricket fans and the wider public to join the group and pledge to Be a Giant: Don't Drink and Drive. Those that make the special commitment will stand a chance of bowling the ceremonial first ball to Sir Vivian, just before the Digicel Pearls T20 Match against India, in front of a packed Queen's Park Oval on June 4. The winners will also receive VIP tickets to watch the game with Sir Viv and Shaka from a sky box, before attending an elite Johnnie Walker party after the game. Everyone is invited to join the Giants Sir Viv and Shaka on Facebook, where there will be regular updates and information about the Be A Giant campaign.
"It was great to be in T&T last week with Shaka to launch the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/johnniewalkertandt. If you visit the page, and "like" the group to Never Drink and Drive, you will be in with a chance of bowling the first ball of the day to me, prior to the T20 match against India on June 4. You can then enjoy the game from a box with Shaka and myself. I will be practising so let's see if you've got what it takes to Be A Giant," Sir Vivian Richards said. Hislop added: "I used to love watching Sir Viv in his pomp. There was no one like him at the crease, so I don't envy the person who has to bowl at him."I hope this great competition prize helps bring people to the Facebook page where they can pledge to Never Drink and Drive. I look forward to seeing the legend out in the middle again, although I may have to fetch the ball from outside the ground!"
Former West Indies captain, Sir Vivian Richards, has been working with Johnnie Walker to promote responsible drinking in the Caribbean over the past four years and is, once again, the face of the Be a Giant campaign that becomes part of Johnnie Walker's global Walk with Giants program. Sir Vivian's incredible life journey inspires and encourages others to become a giant in their own lives.
