Jamaican Dancehall phenomenon, Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer with his new hair.

Jamaican Dancehall phenomenon, Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer is making the news again: this time for something added to his body, rather than the natural pigment which he recently removed via his own “cake soap.”In a video-promo for an event scheduled to occur at the National Stadium in Jamaica on May 28, Palmer miraculously sports shoulder-length tresses where there was little hair before. With waves of speculation, confusion and indignation washing up all over the Internet, the crafty deejay sought to clear the air via a belligerent BlackBerry broadcast message:

“First off, I’d like to say that all the fuss about my hair, as with every other thing that I do has nothing to do with anything except plain old “badmind.” When I was involved in the Ninja Man incident a few years ago, I had in extensions then: why didn’t the hullabaloo commence then?

“Because I wasn't on top,” he answered his own question, “so the hating wasn’t necessary.”

On May 28, Palmer will make his first appearance in the USA in several years, as he appears live via satellite to perform at the annual Best of the Best concert. Speaking from his studio in Jamaica, Kartel expressed great pride in the fact that his music and acclaim has afforded him such a prestigious booking in spite of his inability to travel to the US. “The show will be telecast from The Building Nightclub—My nightclub,” he explained, “and it is an overwhelming feeling, as well as an accomplished feeling to know that my hard work has paid off so much...that I’m such a sought-after performer...that even without a visa, I am still being booked and able to perform in the US of A.”

Backed by his band, Kartel will appear on screen in Miami, alongside dancehall icon, Shabba Ranks and reggae royalty, Stephen and Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, in addition to the some of the top acts in the industry, including:DJ Khaled,Tarrus Riley,Alison Hinds, Trina, Assassin, Etana, Sanchez,I-Octane,Ace Hood,Stephen McGregor,Chino,Richie Loop,Demarco,Gappy Ranks, Romain Virgo, Tifa, Big AC, Qwote, Danielle DI and ZJ Liquid. The two-day concert extravaganza kicks off this Saturday at Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami with the best of the best in contemporary R&B and hip-hop. Dubbed Spring Fest, day one will feature Miami native Rick Ross, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Lloyd, Jeremih, Miguel, Marsha Ambrosius (formerly of the duo Floetry), Travis Porter and Big Sean. Nationally-syndicated radio personality and comedian, “Rickey Smiley” will fulfil host/MC duties, alongside “Russ Parr” and“Jabba”of Massive B. Produced by South Florida's premier music and lifestyle promotions companies, XO Management and Rockers Island Entertainment in association with Radio One, Best Of The Best will welcome thousands of visitors from urban centres around the United States, including New York, DC, Atlanta, Houston, as well as from the Caribbean, South America and Europe.
