The Sci-TechKnoFest, Niherst's signature event, returned this month at the National Science Centre. This year's theme-iCreate, iInnovate and iSustain-focused on teaching visitors about disaster preparedness, renewable energy, creativity and innovation, water resource management, and food production and food security.Students from throughout T&T were able to see and participate in a variety of exciting and educational exhibits, ranging from the technological to the musical to the environmental. This year, Digicel sponsored tours for children from three rural schools to attend the festival. Students from Fishing Pond Presbyterian, Manzanilla, Santa Rita RC, Tabaquite and the Early Childhood Learning Centre of Point Fortin, were able to attend the festival, interacting with science in a meaningful way, while learning about the importance of conservation, creativity and innovation in the development of our nation and the world. The students were engaged by interesting exhibits such as Future World, Pan through the Ages, and The Techkno Theatre, which featured entertaining shows such as Cartoon Science, The Future is Food, and Waste Not, Want Not.The Raging Planet exhibit was particularly popular, as the children were able to experience the force of a category one hurricane in the wind tunnel or test the seismometer by attempting to create their own tremors with frenzied jumping and stamping.Armed with their newly-acquired knowledge and very cool Digicel-donated cooler bags and lunch kits, the children were ready to get out there and make our world a better place.
