Arima Santa Rosa Lions Club held its installation of the Board of Directors at the audio-visual room, La Horquetta North Government Primary School, on June 18. The past president, who will also serve on the Board, gave an overview of the club's successful fund-raisers and service activities some of which were assisting youths, the elderly, visually impaired and disabled people. Newly-inducted president Jennifer Missette said: "With my vision influenced by my beliefs, we will embrace the International President's theme 'I Believe' for the fiscal year 2011 - 2012."
Missette said her goals were:
• strengthening and retaining membership by each member adopting a fellow member and taking care of each other as if they were family. This is our club and we are family.
• Increase active participation with young people and work with them as service partners. The light will shine in public view in the entire community.
• Adopting a class in a school to nurture and work with them towards their full potential.
• Expanding our service to new heights by attracting visibility in our community in the form of a contribution to the environment. She ended her acceptance speech by saying "as we embrace each other as family we would achieve our goals." The theme, "Let the light shine on."
After attending general meetings and three orientation sessions Beulah Garcia was inducted into the club by Janice Beckles. The function ended with the presentations of 30 chairs to the school's audio-visual room, care supplies to an ill elderly person and two Lions, James Robley and Janice Beckles, receiving their Melvin Jones (Founder of Lion Clubs) Fellowship plaque and lapel pins.
