The Angels on Earth Foundation received a blessing on August 19, when some Digicel staffers visited the Foundation bearing gifts for the first project under Digicel Hope-the umbrella under which Digicel will implement its corporate social responsibility programmes. As part of Digicel's efforts in the area of poverty alleviation, the Foundation was provided with two living and two dining room sets, kitchen appliances and a cooling system.
Digicel's contribution, according to Director of the Foundation, Angela Campbell-Gomez, "provides an enabling environment where the children can now practice the table manners and etiquette they are taught. The managers of the home focus on instilling high morals and values in the children and there is also a clear emphasis on education. The children are taken on both fun and educational outings to give them a well-rounded experience."
The Digicel employees, who were bowled over by the appreciation shown for the items provided, also took the time to chat, sing with and read stories to the children. The youngsters in turn, staged a gripping play for the Digicel visitors titled 'Life'-and were rewarded with hearty applause for the talent displayed.
The Angels on Earth Foundation provides a home in Trinidad and Tobago for children and adolescents under the age of 18 who have been abused, neglected, and have no suitable environment in which to live.
The Foundation is responsible for ensuring that the children are enrolled in school and are provided with a loving, nurturing environment in which they may lead secure, comfortable lives. 'Digicel Hope' will undertake a number of community initiatives throughout the year in the areas of: poverty reduction, community building, support in the cause against paediatric cancer and providing assistance to organisations that attend to children with special needs.
