New­lands War­riors were crowned cham­pi­ons of the 2011 GuayaFest In­ter-Com­pa­ny Sports Fes­ti­val held at La Sa­vanne Recre­ation Ground, Guayagua­yare last Sun­day.New­lands snatched the ti­tle from eight ri­vals in a day of fun sports and nov­el­ty events, which at­tract­ed a large and ap­pre­cia­tive crowd. Spon­sored by en­er­gy com­pa­ny bpTT, the in­ter-com­pa­ny sports day formed part of a se­ries of events or­gan­ised by the GuayaFest Com­mit­tee.GuayaFest 2011 comes to an end with a com­mu­ni­ty par­ty at the Guayagua­yare bas­ket­ball court on Sat­ur­day.Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for Ma­yaro, Win­ston "Gyp­sy" Pe­ters, who de­clared the sports day open, com­mend­ed the GuayaFest Com­mit­tee for its ster­ling ef­forts in bring­ing the com­mu­ni­ty to­geth­er through healthy sport­ing and cul­tur­al ac­tiv­i­ties.He al­so thanked bpTT for its con­tin­u­ing part­ner­ship with the com­mu­ni­ties of the south-east re­gion.

Prim­cha­ran Sookram, se­nior plan­ner, bpTT, said the com­pa­ny was pleased to be as­so­ci­at­ed with the com­mu­ni­ty fes­ti­val.On the field it­self, New­lands War­riors picked up cru­cial points in most of the events to take the huge cham­pi­onship tro­phy with 143 points, close­ly fol­lowed by Team bpTT with 132 points.Gen­er­a­tion of Gold placed third, with 110 points. Oth­er teams that took part in the sports day were Neal & Massy Wood­Group, Ma­yaro/Rio Claro Li­ons and Leos Unit­ed, The Gym Crew, The Rigues Fam­i­ly Re­union, Il­lu­sion In­ter­na­tion­al and Jam Town.Li­ons and Leos Unit­ed walked away with the cov­et­ed march past ti­tle, while Team bpTT pulled their way to the tug-of-war crown.
