The large turnout at the Sev­enth Day Ad­ven­tist Fel­low­ship sports day held at Man­nie Ramjohn Sta­di­um on Au­gust 28, made it clear to the crim­i­nal el­e­ments that this coun­try still had plen­ty of fight left. Ac­cord­ing to new­ly ap­point­ed youth leader of the South Caribbean Con­fer­ence of Sev­enth Day Ad­ven­tists, Gideon St Bryce, "The turnout was good de­spite the fact that a lot of mixed mes­sages were cir­cu­lat­ing con­cern­ing the gath­er­ing of peo­ple dur­ing the State of Emer­gency. "De­spite the turn of events in the coun­try in the last few days, we try to live a nor­mal live. If we don't, the crim­i­nals win and that must nev­er hap­pen.

"We achieved our main ob­jec­tives, which was to have fun, bring fam­i­lies to­geth­er and leave in a time­ly fash­ion in or­der to give every­one who came out an op­por­tu­ni­ty to ar­rive home in time to re­spect the cur­few laws," he said. The Port-of-Spain East dis­trict emerged this year's cham­pi­on of the event. It com­pris­es Laven­tille, Mor­vant, Shiloh, St Mark, Maranatha, Cleve­land Tem­ple and South East Port-of-Spain church­es.
