The Anchorage in Chaguaramas was transformed into a delicious treasure trove of good things to eat and drink as Guardian Life of the Caribbean hosted its second fund-raising Food Festival on September 10. As the company continuously aspires to give back and make a great contribution to our communities, all proceeds from the festival went towards the Big Brother, Big Sister Programme of The Heroes Foundation-a non-profit organisation that seeks to nurture the next generation of heroes through the creation and promotion of mentorship activities.
The event brought together a fantastic array of dishes all prepared by 13 teams, 11 of which comprised Guardian Life agents and staff, one representing United Way Trinidad and Tobago, and another representing The Heroes Foundation. All teams showed off their delectable culinary skills, with an array of mouthwatering temptations, including duck, pork, fish, soup, lamb, chicken and pasta. This year's festival competition even brought new culinary surprises to the fore, putting the spotlight on innovative dishes and an atmosphere of fun and amity. Prizes in different categories were presented to the winners by vice president of Sales, Michael Austin, after the dishes were judged by patrons.
Captain Hook and the Cut Throat Cooks emerged winners with the prizes for Best Decorated Tent and Most Creative Team Name, while Fingerlickin' Fingal Five won the prize for the Best Meat/Fish Dish. The Best Side Dish title was won by Steamy Soup Señoritas, and Cooks on Curfew walked away with the prize for Best Team Uniform. Radio personality Blaze added enjoyment to the event in his role as MC, and as the evening drew to a close guests were entertained by the extraordinary talents of Ziggy Rankin, ISasha and King David, who encouraged guests to dance and sing along in celebration and fellowship.
