Members of the Muslim community were honoured when Eid was celebrated on September 9 by the executive of the Caroni East Constituency of The United National Congress (UNC) at the Preysal Community Centre, Couva.Awards were presented to members of the Muslim community by Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh, the Caroni Central MP and Minister of the People and Social Development.The Minister said his ministry and constituency plans to celebrate every national festival in Trinidad and Tobago since it heralds the diverse nature of T&T. He spoke of the virtues of fasting during the month of Ramadan and the spirit of endurance the Islamic community had demonstrated throughout the world.
Speaking on the State of Emergency, Ramadharsingh said too many young people are not in touch with what was taking place in society and had turned to a life of crime. He said the young people had become dispassionate because of criminality that had overtaken society.He added: "They are not part of the society because of the criminality that has crippled society, that has overtaken and overshot what is the real T&T and if this country needs anything it needs this State of Emergency.
