The month of Oc­to­ber is cel­e­brat­ed an­nu­al­ly all over the world as Cred­it Union Month. PSCU Cred­it Union Co-op­er­a­tive So­ci­ety Lim­it­ed, for­mer­ly Pub­lic Ser­vices Cred­it Union (PSCU), will join oth­er Cred­it Unions here in Trinidad and To­ba­go as well as the around the world, in cel­e­bra­tion of this year's theme Cred­it Unions Build­ing a Bet­ter World.In com­mem­o­rat­ing Cred­it Union Month, PSCU has co-or­di­nat­ed var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties de­signed to be of great ed­u­ca­tion­al im­por­tance. The ses­sions are open not on­ly to mem­bers, but al­so to the gen­er­al pub­lic.This year's sem­i­nars were Get­ting Ready for Re­tire­ment, Fi­nan­cial Lit­er­a­cy and Le­gal Aid Clin­ic.Key note speak­er for Get­ting Ready for Re­tire­ment was Robert May­ers, man­ag­ing di­rec­tor at CMMB Lim­it­ed. This sem­i­nar al­so fea­tured a speak­er from the Na­tion­al In­sur­ance Board of Trinidad and To­ba­go (NIBTT) who touched on ben­e­fits of re­tire­ment, sur­vivor's ben­e­fits, fu­ner­al grants and the steps for qual­i­fy­ing for these gov­ern­ment ben­e­fits.The sec­ond sem­i­nar-Fi­nan­cial Lit­er­a­cy-was guid­ed by Max­ine King, se­nior ex­ec­u­tive ac­coun­tant at First Line Se­cu­ri­ties. This ses­sion in­clud­ed a pre­sen­ta­tion by the Cen­tral Bank of Trinidad and To­ba­go, as well as the Con­sumer Af­fairs Di­vi­sion of the Min­istry of Le­gal Af­fairs.

The month of ac­tiv­i­ty clos­es with the re­peat of the very suc­cess­ful le­gal aid clin­ic. For these clin­ics, PSCU mem­bers, who are prac­tic­ing at­tor­neys will spend a day meet­ing with cred­it union mem­bers, pro­vid­ing ad­vice on le­gal is­sues.As the PSCU cel­e­brates its 45th an­niver­sary this year, and em­braces its new man­date with the ex­pan­sion of its mem­ber­ship base, new gen­er­al man­ag­er Jami­la Drap­er says that the theme of this year's cel­e­bra­tion, as well as the fo­cus of the three sem­i­nar ses­sions, augers well as PSCU's mem­ber­ship seeks to ed­u­cate not on­ly their mem­bers, but the pub­lic at large, on all things fi­nan­cial and live our mot­to-On Us You Can Re­ly.To­day, un­til Wednes­day, le­gal aid clin­ics will be held at all branch­es.
