The month of October is celebrated annually all over the world as Credit Union Month. PSCU Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited, formerly Public Services Credit Union (PSCU), will join other Credit Unions here in Trinidad and Tobago as well as the around the world, in celebration of this year's theme Credit Unions Building a Better World.In commemorating Credit Union Month, PSCU has co-ordinated various activities designed to be of great educational importance. The sessions are open not only to members, but also to the general public.This year's seminars were Getting Ready for Retirement, Financial Literacy and Legal Aid Clinic.Key note speaker for Getting Ready for Retirement was Robert Mayers, managing director at CMMB Limited. This seminar also featured a speaker from the National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT) who touched on benefits of retirement, survivor's benefits, funeral grants and the steps for qualifying for these government benefits.The second seminar-Financial Literacy-was guided by Maxine King, senior executive accountant at First Line Securities. This session included a presentation by the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the Consumer Affairs Division of the Ministry of Legal Affairs.
The month of activity closes with the repeat of the very successful legal aid clinic. For these clinics, PSCU members, who are practicing attorneys will spend a day meeting with credit union members, providing advice on legal issues.As the PSCU celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, and embraces its new mandate with the expansion of its membership base, new general manager Jamila Draper says that the theme of this year's celebration, as well as the focus of the three seminar sessions, augers well as PSCU's membership seeks to educate not only their members, but the public at large, on all things financial and live our motto-On Us You Can Rely.Today, until Wednesday, legal aid clinics will be held at all branches.
