I am al­ways thrilled when I get a CD well pre­sent­ed no mat­ter how old.Mar­tin and Mar­tin's ex­quis­ite of­fer­ing Rhythm and Steel fits the bill per­fect­ly.Both Swiss-born, Mar­tin Grah (pan­nist) and Mar­tin Lehn­er have done jus­tice to pan mu­sic. For­eign pan­nists have a spe­cial way of play­ing, un­like our lo­cals who are very per­cus­sive.This al­bum, record­ed in 2009, is still fresh as Grand­ma's Christ­mas sweet­bread, and im­pres­sive in its qual­i­ty of mu­sic.

Rhythm and Steel is quite an en­ter­tain­ing mix of pop­u­lar songs and Ray Hol­man's com­po­si­tion, Red Beans and Rice. Let me say Mar­tin and Mar­tin have cooked a de­light­ful dish.Ray, him­self, would be pleased.On the 13-track CD are: In the Stone, Hal­lelu­jah, Fields of Gold, Ba­nana In the Pan, Aquar­ius (let the Sun­shine In), Sex­u­al Heal­ing, Boo­gie Down, El Cuar­to De Tu­la, Fa­to Con­suma­do and When the Go­ing Gets Tough.

My favourite song is Red Beans and Rice which, in­ci­den­tal­ly is my favourite dish.Rhythm and steel fur­ther en­dors­es that pan and con­ven­tion­al in­stru­ments can live com­fort­ably in the same house.
