Almost 300 fifth and sixth form secondary school students from north, central and south Trinidad filled the Digicel IMAX Theatre at One Woodbrook Place, Port-of-Spain, on February 3, for the second Digicel IMAX School Lecture Series, and to see the documentary Hubble 3D. Excitement filled the air as fascinated students were hurled through space past the Orion constellation and plunged deeper into space, where they viewed images of the vast Nebula known as the birthplace of the stars. Screams filled the air and students could be seen trying to touch the stars (nicknamed tadpoles) as they were "tossed" at them from the Nebula.
The students received an inspiring lecture from Dr Shirin Haque, astronomer and senior lecturer of the Department of Physics at The University of the West Indies, who urged them to "follow your dreams and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls." She encouraged them to "reach for the stars" and not allow people to dissuade them from pursuing their dreams. Penny Gomez, Digicel's communications manager, said Digicel was pleased to expose students to the possibilities of non-traditional careers that are available in addition to the conventional jobs. She advised students that they were about to enter a life-defining era and that they should expand their minds and push the boundaries in order to live their dreams.
