Arima has triple reasons to be proud of its youths. Three young people-Antonio Singh and Ryan Deoraj of Holy Cross College, and Melissa Andrews of Tunapuna Government Secondary School won the local leg of the Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest sponsored by the Arima Lions Club. Andrews is also a member of the Pinto/Santa Rosa Police Youth Group.
Their winning posters were among more than 350,000 entries submitted worldwide in the annual Lions' International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International promoted the programme to emphasise the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. The theme was "Children Know Peace". The winning posters were selected on the basis of their originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme by a panel of judges including council chairperson Lion Nicolin Moore and Lion Emma Derrick, membership director of the Arima Lions Club.
Judging for the contest took place on September 21, at the Santa Rosa Government Primary School. President Cherry Antoine said: "It is obvious that these young people have a strong passion for peace in the world. I'm so proud we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions."
