We pass by the area. We almost always stop, and when we do, we usually buy some of the tasty Trini appeal. Sometimes its juicy, at other times we opt for a little sour. But its always really good. As the dry season continues limers will continue flock to the North Coast every weekend, and the lookout will continue to tantalise with its irresistible goodies. Sandra Mahabir, who makes the journey from Felicity, Chaguanas to Maracas Bay to manage Eden's Sweet and Sour Hot Spot says the spot sees many visitors during the week and even more during the weekend. The stall is owned by her sister and brother-in-law, but she holds down the fort on weekdays from as early as 7.30 am until 5 pm daily. Locals, she said, mostly popped in for Trini delicacies like sugar cakes, tulum, fudge, preserved red mangoes and plums and chow. The stall also provides a fair share of imported Chinese preserves such as peaches and prunes. When asked whether she was comfortable with the surroundings, she said the only problem was the lack of toilet facilities.Beyond that, she said, she and the two other stall operators who legally occupied the lookout area, have been comfortable.
Huts would not be feasible as they would block the view of the ocean that lay to the back of the stalls, she said. "Many people stop by, make their purchases and take pictures, so putting up permanent huts might prevent people from enjoying the view." To date, Mahabir said there had been no security issues, pointing out that she had a personal security guard on duty whenever she was there. Eden's Sweet and Sour Hot Spot has been a part of the lookout landscape since 2001, and according to Mahabir, will continue to provide a service that to many who visit the North Coast area. The lookout is usually abuzz with local flair, and although its work for Mahabir, she does not make an issue of it. She said she just enjoyed meeting and greeting all who stopped by. "They say Maracas is one of the best beaches in T&T, so when you stop at the lookout, shop at Eden's Sweet and Sour Hot Spot," she urged, adding that she was ready and willing to serve visitors any day of the week.
