In recognition of health, safety and environmental awareness at the workplace, Palo Seco Agricultural Enterprises Ltd (PSAEL) hosted its Annual Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Fair from May 2-4 at its head office in Pointe-a-Pierre. The activities were based on this year's HSE International Theme: Green Jobs: Promoting Health and Safety in a Green Economy. Staff members were given various informative lectures from the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) on health, safety and environmental issues affecting our country and the preventative measures used to avoid and control them. The Ministry of Food Production, Land and Marine Affairs presented on the Benefits of Backyard Gardening and its usefulness to the economy, while representative from Sagicor advised those in attendance of the significance and benefits of retirement planning and dealing with issues of critical illness.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) lectured on the safety protocols on environmental issues such as flooding, hurricanes and earthquakes. Certified representatives from the Nursing, Pharmaceutical, Nutrition & Dietetics Department of the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA)offered testings/ screenings and consultations.
Staff participated in an interactive session on Electro Energetic Medicine, which focused on Chinese –chi qigong (breathing exercises), electro therapy, acupressure potent points and shiatsu massages. On the final day of activities, the National Reforestation and Watershed Rehabilitation Programme (NRWRP) addressed the importance of planting trees and highlighted its sustainable and equitable advantages. They distributed trees and encouraged staff members to assist in the promotion of a green economy.
