In recog­ni­tion of health, safe­ty and en­vi­ron­men­tal aware­ness at the work­place, Pa­lo Seco Agri­cul­tur­al En­ter­pris­es Ltd (PSAEL) host­ed its An­nu­al Health, Safe­ty and En­vi­ron­men­tal (HSE) Fair from May 2-4 at its head of­fice in Pointe-a-Pierre. The ac­tiv­i­ties were based on this year's HSE In­ter­na­tion­al Theme: Green Jobs: Pro­mot­ing Health and Safe­ty in a Green Econ­o­my. Staff mem­bers were giv­en var­i­ous in­for­ma­tive lec­tures from the En­vi­ron­men­tal Man­age­ment Au­thor­i­ty (EMA) on health, safe­ty and en­vi­ron­men­tal is­sues af­fect­ing our coun­try and the pre­ven­ta­tive mea­sures used to avoid and con­trol them. The Min­istry of Food Pro­duc­tion, Land and Ma­rine Af­fairs pre­sent­ed on the Ben­e­fits of Back­yard Gar­den­ing and its use­ful­ness to the econ­o­my, while rep­re­sen­ta­tive from Sagi­cor ad­vised those in at­ten­dance of the sig­nif­i­cance and ben­e­fits of re­tire­ment plan­ning and deal­ing with is­sues of crit­i­cal ill­ness.

The Of­fice of Dis­as­ter Pre­pared­ness and Man­age­ment (ODPM) lec­tured on the safe­ty pro­to­cols on en­vi­ron­men­tal is­sues such as flood­ing, hur­ri­canes and earth­quakes. Cer­ti­fied rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the Nurs­ing, Phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal, Nu­tri­tion & Di­etet­ics De­part­ment of the South West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (SWRHA)of­fered test­ings/ screen­ings and con­sul­ta­tions.

Staff par­tic­i­pat­ed in an in­ter­ac­tive ses­sion on Elec­tro En­er­getic Med­i­cine, which fo­cused on Chi­nese –chi qigong (breath­ing ex­er­cis­es), elec­tro ther­a­py, acu­pres­sure po­tent points and shi­at­su mas­sages. On the fi­nal day of ac­tiv­i­ties, the Na­tion­al Re­for­esta­tion and Wa­ter­shed Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Pro­gramme (NR­WRP) ad­dressed the im­por­tance of plant­i­ng trees and high­light­ed its sus­tain­able and eq­ui­table ad­van­tages. They dis­trib­uted trees and en­cour­aged staff mem­bers to as­sist in the pro­mo­tion of a green econ­o­my.
