St Mary’s students cop top essay spots

Hugh Hoford, a Lower Sixth Form student of St Mary’s College, has copped the first prize of $2,000 and a challenge trophy in an essay competition sponsored by energy company BP Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) and the Trade and Economic Development Unit of the Department of Economics of the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine.
 
 
The competition was a special feature of the bpTT/UWI three-day conference on Revenue Management in Hydrocarbon Economies held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of-Spain. Secondary school students throughout T&T were required to write an essay, between 1,200 and 2,000 words, on the topic: In what ways can the foreign companies operating in the energy sector become more active in sustainable development in Trinidad and Tobago.
 
 
Second place went to another Lower Sixth Form student of St Mary’s College, Ryan Van-Low, who received $1,500 and a trophy. Ann Mala Bissessar, Lower Sixth Form student of St Augustine Girls’  High School, placed third, taking home $1,000 and a trophy.
Presentation of the prizes was made by Ronda Francis, manager–corporate responsibility, bpTT.
