ARROW brings self-awareness to San Juan

Members of the T&T arm of ARROW put on a dance show at the San Juan Croisee on June 22. The volunteers are part of a flash mob to raise awareness of the organisation’s existence.

 

Volunteers from the T&T arm of Aural, Read, Respond, Oral, Write (ARROW) descended on the Croisee, San Juan, on June 22 in the form of a dancing flash mob in an attempt to raise public awareness of the organisation’s existence and what it does. ARROW is a multi-sensory approach programme developed by Dr Colin Lane in the UK, and fosters learning through self-voice techniques. The programme can be used by children and adults, even those who have learning difficulties.
 
 
Lane’s research spans almost 30 years, and his method of improving reading and spelling has been used in Literacy Summer Schools, mainstream and special schools across the UK. The programme is aimed at altering the neural processes of students, particularly with reference to internalising skills, promoting motivation and interest resulting in increases in attention ability and self-esteem. From September to December ARROW T&T, which is based in Port-of-Spain, will host a series of awareness-building events throughout the country.
