Director of AFETT Fund-raising Committee, Elitha Rocke Maharaj is mobbed by shoppers at Suit Me Up 2011.

The Association of Female Executives (AFETT) will be hosting its annual Suit Me Up event on Saturday at the Cruise Ship Complex auditorium in Port-of-Spain from 10 am to 4 pm. The event will be used to commemorate the organisation’s tenth anniversary.
Director of communications Shelly Ann Lovell-Williams says the event will target young women who are just getting into the world of work and careers and who may not have or be able to afford a full professional wardrobe.  “Before the event we collect lightly used, nearly new working clothes. We dry clean them and have them restored and sell them at a reduced cost,” said Lovell-Williams. This year the event will also include clothing from local designers and fashion houses.

She said the actual event will also be different this year. “It’s going to be like a girls’ day out,” said Lovell-Williams. “Normally people would come in and do their shopping, then leave, but this year we have a lot of activities.”  These will include a red bag auction, where specially selected clothing will be put into a red bag and participants will be encouraged to bid on the contents. Participants will also be given discounts for dancing and several times throughout the day an “executive bell” will be sounded and customers at cashing station will receive discounts or free merchandise. There will also be a Suit Me Up Tree, AFETT’s version of a Christmas Tree, which will allow participants to make donations to AFETT’s mentorship programme. Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to a charitable organisation.
