Ear­li­er this year Op­po­si­tion Leader Dr Kei­th Row­ley, spon­sored a Car­ni­val Art com­pe­ti­tion which was open to stu­dents of the sev­en pub­lic pri­ma­ry schools in his con­stituen­cy - Diego Mar­tin Boys RC, Diego Mar­tin Girls' RC, La Puer­ta Gov­ern­ment School, Point Cumana Gov­ern­ment School, Point Cumana RC, Care­nage Girls' Gov­ern­ment and Care­nage Boys' Gov­ern­ment School. The com­pe­ti­tion tar­get­ed two age groups-five to sev­en and eight to 12. The stu­dents were pro­vid­ed with the re­quired art sup­plies and were asked to pro­duce a work of art in­spired by Car­ni­val.

Dr Row­ley says he firm­ly be­lieves in the im­por­tance of art and mu­sic in shap­ing well round­ed minds and has seen first hand the pos­i­tive im­pact that art has had on both his daugh­ters. The pieces were judged by artist Liz Gard­ner. The first,sec­ond and third place prizes in­clud­ed books and arts and craft sup­plies. A spe­cial prize was award­ed to the over­all win­ner, Rus­sel Domin­go of Care­nage Boys Gov­ern­ment School for his wire craft­ed sailor pre­sen­ta­tion.
