I work in the southern compound of the Fernandes complex (south of the bus route) so I must go through the northern compound and cross the bus route to get to my workplace every day, along with scores of other workers. Now three years ago there were no traffic lights at the intersection and after many collisions lights were installed. While I agree that the lights are imperative from a safety aspect, they are set to change every four minutes.
Have you ever heard of a traffic light that changes every four minutes anywhere in the world? I bet we could be in the Guinness Book of Records for that. Can you imagine the traffic back-up inside the compounds that it creates? Surely two minutes could suffice, but we have to be ridiculous in everything we do.
Another problem that it creates is that some motorists who do not work in the compounds get the impression that the light is stuck and try to cross on red. I urge the Minister of Transport or whoever is responsible to look into this evident oversight.
