The Higgs boson particle or God particle has been the subject of much conversation in recent times. On July 4 scientists at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, or CERN, in Geneva, Switzerland, announced the discovery of a new particle that seemed to confirm the existence of the long-sought Higgs boson, a subatomic particle believed to give all other particles mass. During a lecture series at various venues in T&T, Swami Brahma Swarupananda (Swami Brahmadeo ji) explained what the particle was all about. “Creation is a great mystery in the history of human civilisation. All religions try to give answers and explanations of the process of creation. In the Nasadi Sukta, of Rig Veda, which is the oldest book of the World Library, some universal questions are put forward such as: What is this creation? What is the cause of creation, what is the purpose of this creation, who is the creator of this creation?”

He said in the same way, modern science, mostly Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy are searching for the first particle of creation. “In this search, at present they came on the conclusion that the Higgs boson particle is responsible for the present model of creation.” He described the particle as a gateway to the new vision of the universe, marrying science and spirituality. “Now, science and spirituality will come together to discover the external world—physical world and internal spiritual world, that is the meta physical world to make a paradise on this planet earth in the future. Thus we can establish spiritual science and scientific spirituality for holistic progress with socio-spiritual dimensions of human life.”
