Cricket enthusiasts following the recently completed West Indies versus New Zealand series were left wondering why ace wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin was not on the team. On July 15 all questions were answered when Ramdin, 27, of Sesame Street, Preysal, tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Janelle Mohess, 26, in a private Hindu ceremony at her Torib Trace, New Grant home. However, Ramdin's nuptial celebrations will be cut short, as he is expected to join the West Indies team for the Test matches against New Zealand, in Antigua and Jamaica. The first Test begins on July 25 at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, Antigua. On September 1 the couple will host a grand reception at Maska building, San Fernando. The West Indies cricket team is expected to attend. Ramdin's wedding ceremony was strictly a family affair. Mohess's father, Jeevan, said they wanted a "simple Hindu wedding" for the couple. He explained that Ramdin and his daughter were friends and that friendship grew into love.
He said Ramdin is a "pretty good wicketkeeper," but, more than that, he is a "good guy and a gentleman." Ramdin, who arrived at the venue in a chocolate-brown BMW decorated with artificial flowers, was dressed in an orange and gold kurta suit. His bride wore a matching designer sari. The ceremony was officiated by Pundit Ravinath Maharaj. Ramdin's father Diaram was present at the ceremony, but his mother Myna, in keeping with Hindu tradition, remained at her home in preparation for the arrival of the wedding party. Mohess's mother, Korisha and her elder sister, Giselle, wept during the ceremony. Ramdin's cousin Kevin poked some fun as he toasted the couple. "Chris (Ramdin), talk nah! Janelle is boss," Kevin said, referring to Ramdin's note to Sir Vivian Richards, costing him 20 per cent of his match fee during the drawn third Test against England at Edgbaston last month. Sir Viv had criticised Ramdin's performances with the bat. After hitting a century in the match Ramdin whipped out a piece of paper with the message, "Yea Viv talk nah," and flashed it at the cameras.
