Fashionable folks gathered en masse at Medulla Gallery on July 20, for the launch of 6 Carlos, a magazine focusing on fashion, art and culture. Named for the address of Meiling's studio, the glossy quarterly is edited by fashion maven Meiling and fellow designer Babatu Sparrow. At the Woodbrook gallery space, curious patrons had to work to see the new publication, as they were suspended from the ceiling and could only be viewed with arms stretched overhead. Their curiosity was satisfied eventually, though, as each guest received a goody bag containing a copy, as well as gifts and discount vouchers from launch sponsors.
The cover of the first edition, dubbed the Culture Issue, featured a photo of Wendell Manwarren, and an interview with the 3 Canal vocalist, entitled Renaissance Man. The 115-page mag also features fashion spreads and articles on topics like art, music, the Internet, journalism and social trends. Before a packed gallery, Medulla owner Geoffrey MacLean welcomed guests, and Sparrow thanked the magazine's sponsors, contributors, fashion and editorial teams, photographers and all who had helped make it possible. He said the next edition of 6 Carlos will be out in October, and in the meantime, the magazine's Website, 6carlos.com, would keep fans in touch. Meiling also extended thanks and invited guests to dance. DJ Shy Guy (Cheyenne Baptiste) did played the music, while patrons limed and danced till midnight.
