Fash­ion­able folks gath­ered en masse at Medul­la Gallery on Ju­ly 20, for the launch of 6 Car­los, a mag­a­zine fo­cus­ing on fash­ion, art and cul­ture. Named for the ad­dress of Meil­ing's stu­dio, the glossy quar­ter­ly is edit­ed by fash­ion maven Meil­ing and fel­low de­sign­er Ba­batu Spar­row. At the Wood­brook gallery space, cu­ri­ous pa­trons had to work to see the new pub­li­ca­tion, as they were sus­pend­ed from the ceil­ing and could on­ly be viewed with arms stretched over­head. Their cu­rios­i­ty was sat­is­fied even­tu­al­ly, though, as each guest re­ceived a goody bag con­tain­ing a copy, as well as gifts and dis­count vouch­ers from launch spon­sors.

The cov­er of the first edi­tion, dubbed the Cul­ture Is­sue, fea­tured a pho­to of Wen­dell Man­war­ren, and an in­ter­view with the 3 Canal vo­cal­ist, en­ti­tled Re­nais­sance Man. The 115-page mag al­so fea­tures fash­ion spreads and ar­ti­cles on top­ics like art, mu­sic, the In­ter­net, jour­nal­ism and so­cial trends. Be­fore a packed gallery, Medul­la own­er Ge­of­frey MacLean wel­comed guests, and Spar­row thanked the mag­a­zine's spon­sors, con­trib­u­tors, fash­ion and ed­i­to­r­i­al teams, pho­tog­ra­phers and all who had helped make it pos­si­ble. He said the next edi­tion of 6 Car­los will be out in Oc­to­ber, and in the mean­time, the mag­a­zine's Web­site, 6car­los.com, would keep fans in touch. Meil­ing al­so ex­tend­ed thanks and in­vit­ed guests to dance. DJ Shy Guy (Cheyenne Bap­tiste) did played the mu­sic, while pa­trons limed and danced till mid­night.
