So you are not into putting chemicals in your hair and you really just want to rock your natural do, whether it’s kinky, wavy or curly. The problem is, you just find it so hard to maintain. Well no worries, as the old adage goes—where there is a will, there is a way.  Well known international barber, stylist and instructor and haircare industry veteran Darrius Peace will be visiting Trinidad and Tobago for the first time to lead a workshop on natural hair care at the Hyatt Regency on Wrightson Road on Sunday. Peace will be here courtesy of ZM Image Consultants’ the hosts of Natural Hairstyling 101, the company’s first natural hair and beauty exposition. Zakya Mills-Francois, lead consultant and coordinator for the exposition, told the T&T Guardian that Peace was chosen for his credentials as a much sought after natural hair care provider in the US. His work has been widely showcased in a number of African-American magazines and Web sites and he has also made it unto the list of US 100 Urban Entrepreneurs. She said Peace has more than a decade of experience in the hair and beauty industry, and has focused exclusively on styling natural afro-textured hair.

“Most of the female employees working here wear the natural look, including myself. We have found especially in our line of work, interacting with clients who also prefer to keep their natural hair—maintenance seems to be an issue. “Not even some professional hairdressers know how to really care for natural hair,”  explained Mills-Francois. Peace, a professionally licenced natural hairstylist has written a book—often called the bible on natural hair—titled My Hair Ain’t Nappy: A Black Man’s Introspection on Natural Hair. Reviewers have described it as a thought-provoking and humorous engagement on the topic, that also offers a professional expertise on how to mentally and physically make the transition to natural, afro textured tresses—all from a black man’s perspective. “Darrius is really coming to teach the average woman and even the professional hairstylist how to accept, embrace and love their natural hair,” said Mills-Francois. She said that some of Peace’s haircare products and his book will be on sale at the expo.
