For the past six years, Payless ShoeSource has shown their support this October for breast cancer awareness with this year's featured accessory item -the 2012 Payless Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) bracelet. Once again, Payless ShoeSource, the worldwide specialty footwear retailer, is proud to offer its Embrace the Cause item in all of its stores in Trinidad from October 1. The Breast Cancer Awareness Programme is one of Payless ShoeSource's social cause programmes that they are very dedicated to. They have been participating in the BCA programme in Latin America and the Caribbean since 2006 and have donated around $2 million to local charities. This year the limited-edition bracelet features a pink heart-shaped pendant which incorporates the international symbol for breast cancer awareness, the pink ribbon, and will be for sale for only $20 and $6.50 from the sale of each bracelet will go to The Cancer Society of Trinidad & Tobago.
"We are excited to continue to show support for this very important cause in partnering with The Cancer Society of Trinidad & Tobago to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Our Embrace the Cause bracelet allows everyone to join in the fight against breast cancer," said International Marketing Director of Payless ShoeSource, Carlos Ayala. One of the organisations that will benefit from the fund-raising drive is Vitas House Hospice, a hospice for cancer patients. "Vitas House Hospice is a service of the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society where we care for those cancer patients who are losing their journey called cancer.
"As strides are being made worldwide to defeat cancer, either by prevention, early detection and one day a cure, for the terminal stages of this disease, we are overwhelmed by the generosity and recognition by Payless ShoeSource to our cause. By their generosity, Payless has made our ability to do this easier and for this we express our deepest thanks", said Dr Jacqueline Sabga, Vitas House chairman/medical director. The Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society, a non-profit organisation since 1967, is actively involved in the fight against cancer through screening to facilitate early detection, education to increase public awareness of the disease, social counselling and psychological support and welfare assistance. The Society has expanded its services, with the generous support of corporate citizens, to include palliative care to terminally ill cancer patients at the Vitas House Hospice, located in the compound of the St James Medical Complex.
