Tonight, some lucky person may experience the overwhelming feeling of becoming an instant millionaire, if they win the big lotto jackpot which stands at an estimated $11 million. Trinidad  According to NLCB’s Marketing Coordinator, Stafford Wheeler, the biggest win to date was $16.1 million claimed by one ticket holder. But how is all that cash disbursed to a winner? They receive a cheque said Wheeler.

He added because of the huge sum of money a winner obtains all at once, the commission understands with all the euphoria surrounding the win a person can easily “blow” that money, therefore winners receive financial counseling on how to spend, invest and save the money.

Asked if he could highlight former winners who have gone on to success in regard to how they handled the money they won, Wheeler did not reveal names, but only gave the figures of two—an $11 million winner and $1 million ticket holder, both of whom invested their winnings wisely and are now accomplished business people. “Our policy is that we treat winners information with the strictest confidence,” Wheeler said.

In regard to how the lottery system works and how the money is accumulated, Wheeler disclosed, lotto / lotto plus is a pari mutuel game. That is, the eventual jackpot comes from player participation and the eventual winner(s)are those whose tickets bear the winning numbers, following the grand draw.

So what's the volume on ticket sales right now? Wheeler says information on daily purchases was not available to him at present. However, should no one strike gold today, the jackpot will rollover.
